Andrew Tonelli is a litigator with broad experience in complex commercial litigation, from inception to appeal, in state and federal courts across the country. His practice has included controversies involving contract disputes, fraudulent transfers, trade secrets, restrictive covenants, and business torts, among other claims.
Before joining GGU, Andrew was a litigation associate at a Chicago-based commercial litigation firm and worked as an Assistant Attorney General in the Office of the Illinois Attorney General’s Public Interest Division. After graduating from law school, Andrew clerked for the Honorable Maria Valdez in the United States District Court for the Northern District of Illinois and for the Honorable Peter J. Maassen in the Alaska Supreme Court.
Andrew received his law degree, cum laude, from the University of Michigan Law School in 2014, where he was Managing Editor for the University of Michigan Journal of Law Reform. He received his undergraduate degree, with high honors in History, from Wesleyan University in 2006.
Andrew was named to Best Lawyers: One to Watch from 2021 through 2024 for outstanding professional excellence in commercial litigation.

- Defended regulated medical waste service provider against hundreds of class action opt-out businesses asserting consumer fraud and breach of contract claims in multiple suits in state and federal court
- Represented private equity client in suit alleging post-acquisition earnout and warranty breach claims arising from acquisition of subsidiary business
- Represented national banking client in suit against property developer concerning 15-year, multi-project lending relationship and obtained summary judgment in client’s favor
- Represented federally regulated dairy cooperative in antitrust litigation alleging price-fixing in federal court
- Represented national insurance services provider as plaintiff against former high-level executive in state-court action alleging misappropriation of trade secrets
- Represented federally regulated dairy cooperative in national class action alleging claims of consumer fraud under various states’ laws
- Represent national insurance services provider in individual litigations and class actions alleging claims of fraud and consumer fraud in state and federal courts throughout the country
- Represented medical technology company in arbitration against former employee concerning claims of misappropriation of trade secrets and violation of non-compete and non-solicitation obligations
- Represented individual military-contractor plaintiffs in successfully defending jury verdict under Department of Defense whistleblower statute on appeal in federal court
- Represented national insurance services provider in separate federal appeals defending judgment dismissing claims of misappropriation of trade secrets and conversion and obtaining dismissal of appeal for want of jurisdiction
- Represented property developer in commercial lease dispute culminating in trial
- Represented private equity client in one-week trial against former employee alleging breach of employment and ownership contracts of portfolio company
- Represented healthcare mergers and acquisition advisory firm in enforcing arbitration judgment in federal court
- Represented two applicants in immigration court proceedings and succeeded in obtaining withholding of removal from United States
